The Type of Personality You Are Period 5

Today in the 5th period world of Smith, special guest Charlene Brock came to talk with the class. She asked us the question 'Why am I here?' as a lead into the facinating lecture that soon followed. One of the goals of the period was to gain basic understanding of psychological type and preferences. Mrs. Brock lectured the Personality Type Theory and had the class participate in understanding ourselves better.
Dominant Hand
The first activity the class did was to sign their name at the top of the paper, and then sign their name with the other hand. This was to show that while it may be awkward to write with the non-dominant hand, it is possible and that the skill can be developed.

Extroversion and Introversion (source of your energy)

-the class had 11 Extroverts

-about 49% of the US population

-the class had 14 Introverts

-about 51% of the US population

Sensing and Intuition (How you take in new information)

Mrs. Brock had the class write about a beach ball for a certain amount of time, we were to write anything we wanted and in any way we wanted, it just had to involve a beach ball.

-the class had 10 people for Sensing

-about 73% of the US population

- the class had 18 people for Intuition -about 27% of the US population

After decide whether you were sensing or intuition, each side gave their example of the beach ball which helped the class understand the difference.

Thinking and Feeling (How you make decisions)

-The class had 10 people for Thinking

-About 40% of the US population

-The class had 17 people Feeling

-About 60% of the US population

Judging and Perceiving (How you make decisions)

-The class had 11 people Judging

-About 54% of the US population

-The class had 17 people Perceiving

-About 46% of the US populatoin

Windy Wednesday with Smith Period 5

It was quite a windy Wednesday in Mrs. Smith's period 5 English class today as the class was greeted with the usual 'hello class!' and we responded with an exuberant 'hello Smith'. The homework for tonight is to creat your podcast on audacity, and to upload your essay to the This I Believe website;http://thisibelieve.org/submission/#_EssayForm=first.
Smith then discussed with the class what the agenda for the day was, which included continuing with act 2 scene 2, then taking the quiz on all of act 2 and then followed by finishing the book up with act 3 of "Inherit the Wind". If you need a refresher, we read pages 94-then end (this is only if you had the newer books with the blue covers); or you could just use the buddy system and ask a fellow classmate what happened in the story (but reading the book yourself would be reccomended).
Hope your Wednesday was great!

451 Fishbowl period 5

Today Mrs. Smith greeted the class as usual with a cheery 'Hello Class!' which was then met with a less enthusiastic 'Hello Smith'. Mrs. Smith then launched into an explanation as to why we had a sub the previous day; she also stated that if us students ever have any doubts about what we're supposed to do, to skype her and ask the question.
The entire day was focused on the fishbowl for Fehrenheit 451 pages 68-91 by Ray Bradbury. Here is a link to a sparknotes summary of the entire part two, 'The Seive and the Sand' if you need to catch up, http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/451/section6.rhtml. The inner circle brought up some good points and so did the outer circle in the blog http://smith9h1011.blogspot.com/2010/10/fahrenheit-451-68-91-period-5.html if you want to check them out or need a better understanding of the novel. The discussion went all of the way up to the bell without any of the students noticing which just shows how into the discussions all of us were.
Mrs. Smith explained that for the rewrite format, you needed the original copy of your Macbeth essay, then your edited copy with a teacher's edits from writing lab, then your new copy on top to be eligible to turn them in.
