  2. Elise,

When I first got the inkling of what your talk was about, I thought "communism!" However, you explained away this preconceived notion as you went. You didn't say we should give all to the poor and all be equal. You just said we can help in different ways.

I liked your experiences you shared about going to Mexico. It showed that you are not a hypocrite in what you are talking about.

Don't worry, talking gets easier as you do it more! Keep working at it, and you'll get it down.

  3. Elise shared her own opinion about how important it is to help the poor, and how we have misconceptions about how we help these people. Money isn't the only answer, and that shows our ignorance of the reality of poverty. She gave the class the confidence that we CAN help, rather than just stand and watch. Elise showed that she isn't just talking the talk, but walking the walk because she herself goes on mission trips to help others by building houses for the poor. This matters to her because she is practicing what she believes in.

  4. I agree with Mariah. We need to better help those in need, especially if we have money.

  5. Elise- Your point is very good. This has been an issue for years, and though it is frequently discussed, many people do nothing. Your talk will inspire the people who are able to hep to do so. You have showed them that anything they can give would be very precious to the poor. The idea of other ways of helping besides money was great!

  7. You had a really great speech! It is irritating to see a cruise ship that is huge, while people in Haiti are living in small homes. Many people remain ignorant of what poor people experience. I love how you go help out the church. It is great to see people who are not as priviledged as us to make progress. Excellent speech!

  8. The pictures that you compared on the first slide really made me aware of how much money we spend on non-necessities when others don't have basic supplies they need to survive. Don't freak out; you did really well! I am really inspired now to go out and help people who don't have as much as I do.

You held yourself together very well through out the whole thing which can sometimes be a hard thing to do. I also think it's very cool thatyou wrote your own ted sentence for this! :)

  15. Elise- That is a great topic to talk about. There is a statistic that 95% of the wealth of the world is controlled by the top 10% of people. That doesn't make sense.
