Abby- I do believe that this is a communist country but if you just look at all the jobs we have today, one government would have a hard time running all of that. I think that is why there are the different ministries because it would be hard to manage that many people working in one place for just one purpose. Where there are actually many jobs to be done that one purpose can not cover.
Avery- I think that the gin and cigarettes are the only things in abundance because it makes the mind foggy. In the very beginning Winston comes home drinks some gin and then forgets what he was going to write about in the diary he had just bought. It makes the people easier to control, therefore giving the government more power.
Jack- I think that having four ministries just shows us that the government has four main objectives that the four ministries can cover. The significance could be that the ministries represent the only thing the government cares about, being right.
